Business Resource Center

This collection features print  and electronic materials in the library's collection.  Specialized business workshops have also been partnered with the East Jordan Chamber of Commerce.  The Business Resource Center is in collaboration with Northern Lakes Economic Alliance, Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, and East Jordan Chamber of Commerce.

Digital Collections

The digital collections consist of downloadable WMA and MP3 Audiobooks, EPUB, pdf and Kindle ebooks, magazines, music and video for patrons 24/7.  They can be downloaded to a laptop, PC, smart phones, iphones or compatible devices from inside the library or from home.  A valid library card in good standing is required to use this service. 

Up North Digital Collections contains ebooks, eaudio books, music and videos.

Freegal Legal Music contains music per song.  (3 per week per card downloadable).

Zinio contains magazines.

Indieflix contains independent films

Tumble Book Library contains ebooks, videos, puzzles & games, read-alongs and language learning ebooks for grades kindergarten through third.

TumbleBookCloud Junior contains early reader chapter ebooks, graphic novels, children's audiobooks and videos for grades 3 through 8.

AudioBookCloud contains YA/teen eaudiobooks for grades 6 through 12.

Local History/Genealogy Collection/Digitalized Indexed Newspapers

This collection is comprised of books, (mainly New England States), magazines, and microfilm.  Newspapers are available in digital indexed images and also available on microfilm.  Newspapers include:  East Jordan News Herald (1902-1904), Charlevoix County Herald (1907-1953), East Jordan News Herald (1956-1967), Charlevoix County Press (1978-1991), East Jordan Journal (1992-2003), The Citizen Journal (2003 - 2009) and Charlevoix County Press (2009 - 2011) which all are able to print to the public copier for 20 cents a copy.  It is also possible to save pages to a CD.
Ancestry Library database service for genealogy is available to our patrons.  In library use only.

Obituary Requests and Fees

Patrons may visit the library and view an obituary on microfilm.  Prints from the microfilm are 20 cents per page. Obituary requests may be submitted by mail or email.  Requests with name and date of death of person your looking for should be submitted to:

Please include your contact information so staff may call or email if there is a question about the request. A fee will be implemented for services. If more in-depth research is required, we will provide the requestor with a list of other suggested resources. 

Internet Access

Download the Computer Use Agreement (requires Acrobat Reader) to use the library's computers. Wireless Internet Service is available in the library as well as in the parking lots during library hours. 
Connection is automatic with no password required.  Connect to JVDL.

MeLCat

Michigan Electronic Library Catalog is available to all Jordan Valley District Library patrons. There are hundreds of libraries in MeLCat with millions of materials to request.  Many materials including DVD & VHS movies. CD music and books are available at no cost to library patrons.  Items patron request will be delivered to the library within days.  Patrons must use their library card to request materials and their account has to be clear of outstanding fines. 

Literacy Lab/Michworks

The literacy lab in collaboration with Northwest Michigan Council of Governments and MichWorks is located in the lower level of the library.  They may be contacted at (231) 536 7898.

LIBRARY gift card

Give a LIBRARY gift card to someone who would use library services.  Cards are sold in $5 increments purchased at the library.  The gift card is good for the following services:
  • Copies & prints
  • Used books
  • Documents scanned to email
  • Faxes
  • Fines
  • CD's
  • Reuseable library bags
  • Replacement library cards
  • CD, DVD, PS3 or Blu-ray disc cleaning
  • Plus other services
Cards must be turned in at the library by December first annually to receive credit on account.

The following services are available:

Community Room

The community room is available to non-profit organizations.  Organizations that are not non-profit will be charged $50 for up to four hours useage and $100 for a full day.  A Community Room Policy (requires Acrobat Reader) must be filled out by a representative of the organization who must have a valid library card within the library's service area.  Equipment available includes:
  • overhead projector with mounted screen
  • electronic speaker podium
  • TV/VCR/DVD
  • wipe on-wipe off board
  • LCD monitor for presentations
  • wireless internet access

Art Display

The purpose of the hanging art collection is to display local talent in the library.  Art is displayed throughout the library for two months.  Artists may sell their works by leaving their business cards with a phone number to be contacted.  Download the  Art Collection Policy (requires Acrobat Reader) for information on displays.

Display Cases

Library has two display cases for displaying items of interest, services, events, etc.

Income Tax Forms

Each year the library receives federal and state tax forms and publications.  They are located in the entrance way of the library during tax season.   A reproducible manual is available in the reference area in which unique  forms may be found. 
Tours & Visits
Tours are given to groups who make reservations in advance. The tour must be pre-arranged, but your group is welcome to come and browse informally if a tour is not necessary. Staff are available to speak to groups or organizations about our services and collections.

Newsletter

CHECK IT OUT, self published six times per year by the library, informs residents of the latest library news and events. The newsletter is available electronically on the library's homepage.  If you would like to receive an ecopy sign up for enews on the library's website.  An email is required.

Northland Library Cooperative

The library is a member of the Northland Library Cooperative.  As a member it receives services throughout the year to help with continuing education units, technology services, and summer reading entertainment.
